Your instructions are the greatest!
My Zune was full of books I had already listened to and I was able to get them all off!
Now I can get new ones, or put more music on it.
Thankyou so much!!!

Wow, this is tedious.

In Overdrive there are no audiobooks but I have three on my Zune. Can you please help me!? I really want to get them off but those instructions don’t apply to me.

Thanks so very much for posting this. I had stumbled on this problem and yours was by far the most clear and clean solution.

Thank you so much. Yours was the only instructions that were detailed enough out there. Thanks again.

A slightly less tedious way of deleting ALL of the Overdrive audiobooks using the above method is to right click on the Overdrive folder (see last graphic) and select “delete”.
This eliminates all of the Overdrive files on your Zune.

Thank you. I never comment but I have been searching for these instructions for months. You are a lifesaver! Well, a Zune saver

Kameron, you can still delete stuff this way. Just get to “Screen 5 (the final step)” through any book. So, just download a book and get to the “Screen 5″ and delete anything that you want. I had the same problem and this is how I got rid of my books.

Well, I’m totally putting this (along with OVERDRIVE) on my next episode of ZUNEUSERS podcast! ^_^

It took me longer to find these simple instructions then to actually follow them. Thank you.

Thank you so much. I have an apple touch for music, and got a sansa fuse and a zune specifically for library audiobooks from overdrive. the fuse is really simple. the zune has been a lot more work. I got the zune for the larger capacity, but thought I would end up with every book I downloaded trapped forever on the player. thank you so much especially for the pics which are easy to follow.

@Sarah, what are you talking about? There is no such thing!
14 Karen // Mar 9, 2009 at 8:51 pm
Thanks for the info! I’m a new owner to a Zune and am still learning! Great instructions, expecially from you, Sarah. Just what I needed!

works great. Except that many (most?!) books are in parts, some have many dozens of parts. this is very, extremely, VERY tedious, when you have a dozen or so books to delete and they each have dozens of parts.
It is possible to delete them all (I have not actuallly tried this, since I have many, many books I want to not delete) in one swoop. right-click the overdrive folder iitself/delete.
sure wish there was a more realistic way to do this. people with a 120 GIG zune and used overdrive, are probably people that have many books to manage as well. bah.

Thank you for the information, it was very helpful. You are a very intelligent person, I have tried and tried to delete my audiobooks.
Thank You

Thank you so much!! I’ll be saving this site so I can refer to it again the next time!
18 Kris // May 10, 2009 at 11:09 pm
I did this by selecting the overdrive folder and hitting delete. It took the audiobooks off my Zune but it also took the audiobooks setting off my Zune. Now, when I try to add books it won’t let me. Any suggestions? I’ve tried updating my Zune but it tells me I already have 3.1.

Thanks….been trying to figure this problem out for awhile now. Very time consuming getting all the old books out, but will be easy to keep on top of deletes now. Thanks again

Thanks so much! I will try this when I get home!
24 ann // Nov 14, 2009 at 1:33 am
All the books in overdrive were expired
When I hit transfer it just deleted it from the console because is was past the expiration date
and didn’t take me to the part
to delete anything.
What to do?

Thanks. I am new to Zune and was frustrated by the same thing. This is a great solution, albeit tedious. I can’t believe the Zune software is so un-friendly.
26 Katherine Reschke // Mar 3, 2010 at 1:43 pm
Thank you for your very clear instructions. I love my Zune mostly because of Zune pass but they sure do not make things easy for their users. Buck up Microsoft!
27 Beau // Apr 26, 2010 at 11:53 am
Wow, thanks so much for this! I had been getting so frustrated because I could not remove a book. Thanks again!
28 Rick // May 4, 2010 at 3:50 pm
If you don’t have any audio books on overdrive you can’t get to transfer. I downloaded a book just to be able to get to the transfer section and deleted it afterward.

Thanks! I have been searching everywhere how to get rid of the old books.
You are the best!!

Thanks for the instructions. I have looked quite a few places for these. Cleaned up my zune in minutes.
32 Len Harris // Nov 10, 2010 at 8:23 pm
We were working with Microsoft to remove audiobooks from our Zune. Presently Micosoft has no means to remove an audiobook. We called the library and they gave us your Overdrive instructions. Life became simple. I just don’t understand Microsoft, they can’t make things simple

Thank you SO much! I had some audio books on my Zune that I put on with Overdrive before my computer crashed and I could not for the life of me figure out how to get them off. Even the ones that I’ve downloaded since then that are library books with expiration dates seem to go nowhere. This is tedious and takes time, but at least they are off my device. I’m trying to figure out what rocket scientists did the programming both for the Zune and for Overdrive to make it so difficult to get things off the device? This was the first experience to make me regret getting a Zune over an iPod, and if you knew how against purchasing an Apple product I am, you’d see that takes a LOT to get me to that regret.
34 Lynne // Jan 9, 2011 at 12:18 am
Thanks! Crazy that after all this time it’s still not a simple thing via the Zune software.
35 Me'Lissa // Jan 14, 2011 at 5:48 am
THANKS!!! I was in a near panic since I was approaching the memory limit on my zune and I couldn’t get the damn books I’d listened off! You are a life saver… wintergreen!
36 Sue // Apr 16, 2011 at 12:51 am
Is this the ONLY way to get the overdrive files off? You can only delete one part at a time…takes forever!!!
37 Jim // May 8, 2011 at 3:52 pm
Wow, this is terrific.
thanks much
38 orange55 // Jun 16, 2011 at 2:05 am
Kris,
Try downloading the overdrive software again. You probably got the audiobooks setting on your zune that way in the first place, when you downloaded your first library book.
39 Jim // Jun 28, 2011 at 5:40 am
Thank you for the directions for Overdrive Media Console to remove/delete unwanted audiobooks. I was able to delete most of the audiobooks but I still have a few that remain. The remaining audiobooks do not show up on the Overdrive Media Console. Do you have further directions to remove the last few books? Thanks again.
